Ofo cycles contribute to Delhi Technological University.

Delhi Technological University, formerly known as Delhi College of Engineering(DCE), is known for its state-of-the-art infrastructure, beautiful surroundings, friendly environment and of course, academics. But Transportation on this huge college campus was an issue faced by most students, scholars, & facility etc.

Heavily motivated to address this issue of an alternative transportation system in an environment-friendly, health-friendly and pocket-friendly manner, Introduction of ofo cycles within the campus was one of the several steps that DTU’s administration has taken to address the problem of rising pollution and PM 2.5 levels. In this area, General Secretary and President of DTU-SA respectively, have achieved an appreciable feat with the introduction of Ofo cycles that can be seen in abundance around the campus.

Ofo cycles the world’s largest dock less bicycle-sharing platform launched its second pilot project in Delhi at Delhi Technological University. Currently, ofo has deployed 150 bicycles across the DTU campus, giving an eco- friendly alternative for trips within the campus. Riders will be able to pick up and drop ofo bicycles from anywhere within the university premises. For promotion purposes, this system is free until August. After August, there will some charges, but they’d be nominal just to avoid misuse of the cycles.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Yogesh Singh pedals the first ofo ride on the Delhi Technological University (Formerly DCE) campus. We are grateful to have a very cooperative management in our university with the Hon’ble Vice Chancellor always encouraging such initiatives. Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, DTU, Yogesh Singh, said: “I am very thankful to ofo who are promoting this initiative in the University”. He further added that DTU will pay for the rides of its staff and faculty to promote bicycling in the campus. He encouraged students to promote the bicycling initiative by volunteering towards safe and responsible bicycling on campus. Administration ensures that no cycle goes out of the campus. Riders will be able to pick up and drop ofo bicycles from anywhere within the university premises to either travel from their hostel to classes or to traverse different departments, without having to resort to motorized vehicles.

Currently, students of  Alternative Transportation Systems Society (ATS) are focusing on building a GPS system to track each cycle and advanced sensors tracking the change of altitude and movement in order to detect theft. So right now, the students planning to increase there manpower and engage more technical students that can bring onboard to work on this system and once they achieve they can definitely ask the university to help them out with the funding and get DTU’s own cycle transportation system running.
